AANHPI Heritage Month: Craft Sundays

We will celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander culture and achievements through art. Supplies will be provided for a different art project hosted on the first three Sundays in May (May 5, 12 & 19) from 12:30-4:30 pm.

Have fun with books and stories, songs, and movement in a positive and affirming environment. Black Storytime builds language and literacy skills your child needs to be ready for kindergarten.

Attendance is limited and free tickets are available 15 minutes before storytime.

Juneteenth: Kehinde Wiley, An Economy of Grace

In honor of Juneteenth, join Multnomah Library at University of Oregon for a film screening of Kehinde Wiley's documentary An Economy of Grace! "The artist behind Barack Obama's presidential portrait, Kehinde Wiley is known for his larger-than-life classical paintings of Black men. In 'An Economy of Grace,' Wiley sets out to create his first portrait series centering Black women." This film is 40 minutes long.

Two talented Indigenous hoop dancers will share their culture and skills through the art of hoop dance, followed by a Q & A session. Hoop dancing originated as a healing ceremony and continues to be practiced and shared as a form of Indigenous tradition, artistic expression and cultural sharing opportunity. Hoops are utilized to make formations that honor various animals and nature, as well as new and creative designs.
