Albina Library

Closed:  March 18, 2023
Reopening: Summer 2025
Alternate libraries for services during closure: Hollywood Library, North Portland Library, Northwest Library

Albina Library will be renovated and expanded, resulting in 30,000 square feet of space. The library will grow to be one of the largest in the county while keeping the historic Carnegie building on Knott Street. 

New features:

  • Outdoor courtyard for community members to relax and connect
  • Large community and meeting rooms
  • Expanded study spaces 
  • Dedicated teen space
  • Updated technology and faster internet
  • Community art installations
  • A large, dedicated children’s space
  • New collections tailored for Albina patrons

Belmont Library 

Closed: September 7, 2024
Reopening: Spring 2026
Alternate libraries for services during closure: Central Library, Holgate Library and Hawthorne Holds Pickup at 3557 SE Hawthorne Blvd 

Belmont is adding a new, two-story building to its current one. This will more than double the building’s current size. 

New features include:

  • Flexible meeting spaces for community use
  • A large youth space for children and families
  • A dedicated teen area
  • Updated technology and faster internet
  • Community artwork

Kenton Library

Closed: February 21, 2025
Reopening: Summer 2025
Alternate libraries for services during closureNorth Portland LibraryNorthwest Library 

Kenton Library will reopen after completing an interior refresh.

New features include: 

  • Fresh paint and new carpet
  • New comfortable seating 
  • Welcoming areas for children and teens
  • A designated space for patrons to scan, copy and use library computers
  • Updated technology and meeting room furniture 

St. Johns Library

Closed:  Oct 11, 2024
Reopening: Spring 2026
Alternate libraries for services during closure: North Portland Library, Northwest Library

St. Johns will receive much-needed updates honoring its historic architecture while adding 2,900 square feet. 

New features:

  • A large play and learning space for children and families.
  • Flexible meeting spaces for community use.
  • A teen area with space for technology, homework and creative expression.
  • Updated technology and internet. 
  • New art that represents the community.
  • Updated technology and faster internet
  • New collections tailored for St. Johns patrons

Woodstock Library

Closed: March 17, 2025
Reopening: Summer 2025
Nearby libraries for services during closure: Holgate LibraryHawthorne Holds Pickup at 3557 SE Hawthorne Blvd. 

Woodstock Library will reopen after completing an interior refresh.

New features include: 

  • An inviting children’s area with fun movable animal chairs
  • A teen area for homework and creative expression
  • A designated spot for patrons to scan, copy and use library computers
  • Updated technology and meeting room furniture
  • Fresh paint and new carpet

Library collections during construction

Library collections (books, media, etc.) will be affected by construction. Some items will be moved to storage and unavailable during building closures. You can always find up-to-date information about available materials through the library catalog. If the item you are looking for is not available to be checked out, take a look at our vast collection of e-books, audiobooks, and streaming media, all free to use with your library card.
