Support the Library

Multnomah County Library is a great library because of its many supporters. Here’s how you can get involved.

The Library Foundation

The Library Foundation supports the work of the library with gifts, large and small, from thousands of individuals, businesses and foundations.

In 2022-2023, the foundation made it possible for the library to reach more than 200,000 people, make more than 102,000 books available and expand 15 different programs that reached tens of thousands of children facing inequities that drive challenges to academic success.

The foundation is a four-star nonprofit with Charity Navigator, and is the organization designated by Multnomah County Library to receive bequests and planned gifts that benefit the library.

From 2023-2026, gifts to The Library Foundation will continue to support books and programs, and will also enable the library to create cutting-edge learning environments for children and teens in our eight new or expanded libraries, including early learning spaces for young children, creative learning labs and spaces where teens can study. Public dollars are funding the construction but these unique, custom-designed learning spaces will only be possible with private support.

Friends of the Library

Friends of the Library supports a variety of library programs and promotes public involvement in the library.

Volunteers help staff Rose City Reads at the Library Operations Center and the Friends Library Store at Central Library. Proceeds from all of these efforts go to library programs.

Friends of the Library is a nonprofit advocacy organization founded in 1972.
