what i carry
Dates: Jan. 15, 2025 - March 15, 2025
Since 2010, Jim Lommasson has collaborated with communities displaced from their homes anhomelands, sharing stories of refugees and survivors who bear the burdens of the diaspora. The what i carry project focuses on Portland’s unhoused community and reminds us of our shared humanity. What would you carry if you find yourself in need of shelter, should circumstances in your life shift? Jim photographed significant personal items participants carry with them. Participants then added art or words to the photo of their object to express why their object holds importance. By providing a voice to those who are rarely heard, we build a sense of community and understanding.
