Originally opened in 1972, Capitol Hill Library serves the Southwest Portland community. The building is 6,060 square feet, and the original architects were Allen, McMath and Hawkins, A.I.A. More recently, Capitol Hill Library received refresh updates, including fresh paint, new seating and updated technology.
Milestones
2024 Capitol Hill Library reopens to the public.
2023 The library closes for an interior refresh of carpet and paint, new seating and shelves, updated technology, and planned maintenance. The refresh is funded by the 2020 voter-approved library building bond.
2017 A new community Learning Garden opens at Capitol Hill Library.
1999 The library reopened after renovations on February 16.
1989 Capitol Hill became one of the first four branch libraries to circulate videos.
1972 The new Capitol Hill Library opens.
1969 Property purchased and construction began.
